First, before you read, let me give you a little insight to my opinions on how the Mithran society works in Vana'diel.
It's widely, and obviously, known that male Mithra are rarely/never seen. This being said, I think that the small, male Mithra population are held, literally as breeders. Yeah, sure they're treated well, and with high regards, but when it comes down to it, they're just used to create more offspring.
Now, that being said, I also think it's common practice for Mithran females to take on husbands of other races, and when they want to have a child, they're put on a sort of "list" to breed with a male Mithra, and eventually, the female bears child and is raised by the Mithran mother and a father of another race.
In the case of this story, Aya's "father" is an Elvaan, who worked on a trading route between Jeuno and Kazham, but as darker times grew near, the Goblins in the area showed agression towards the small village of Kazham. Ayasu's father, originally from San d'Oria, chose to flee back to his home country to hide behind the thick castle walls.
